Ashley Dickson - Celebrity News Service News Writer New York, NY (CNS) - Rapper Snoop Dogg was honored for his achievements in the music industry at VH1's fourth annual Hip Hop Honors event last Thursday. The special, which is set to air on VH1 beginning Monday, featured other musical pioneers such as Missy Elliot, '80s rap group Whodini, A Tribe Called Quest, music executive Andre Harrell and producer Teddy Riley. The event, hosted this year by Tracy Morgan, showcased a bevy of hip hop stars who were all on hand to pay homage to those who helped paved the way to mainstream rap and hip hop. Artists like Nelly, Jermaine Dupri, Timbaland, and Bow Wow, all took the stage to perform musical tributes to the honorees that continue to help shine a positive light on the world of hip hop. "This is the best thing for us to happen for hip-hop, it's positive," Snoop Dogg, a.k.a. Cordozar Calvin Broadus, said after the show. "These awards shows - never no violence it's never negative, never anything in the media the wrong way, it's always a great celebration of music and the artists and what they did." Snoop Dogg appeared truly humbled as those in the industry took time to sing his praises. Over his career Snoop has released eight albums, and has been nominated for eight Grammy awards, and has made numerous film and television appearances.
