Moscow, Russia (AHN) - French president Nicolas Sarkozy said there was a convergence of views between him and the Russian president over the issue of Iran's nuclear program. He also said progress was made on Kosovo as well during their three-hour talks in Moscow on Tuesday.

"On Iran, I have the impression that our positions have firmly moved closer together," Sarkozy told reporters. On Kosovo, he said, "We saw a path which could eventually allow us to bring our views closer."

Sarkozy described his discussion with Vladimir Putin as 'frank' and 'passionate', and the relationship between them is developing well.

Sarkozy's statements come after his critical remarks over Russia's human rights records as well as the latter's stand on several global issues last week.

While western governments call for tougher U.N. sanctions against Iran over nuclear program, Russia has threatened to use its veto power against any such measure.

Sarkozy said he felt Putin's position was moving closer to that of his during the Tuesday's discussion. "There is a very clear convergence of views on the analysis of the state of Iranian nuclear research," he said.

Regarding Kosovo, a breakaway province of Russia's ally Serbia, Sarkozy said Putin has kept his door open for a compromise formula. Kosovo is demanding sovereign status which is being opposed by Serbia and Russia.

The French president is to continue talks with Russian authorities on Wednesday to discuss issues including economic projects.
