Bangkok, Thailand (AHN) - Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana, the Thai king's elder sister, is being given medication after she experienced weakness on the right side of her body Thursday morning, the Royal Household Bureau announced Thursday night.
Physicians performed a brain scan which showed extensive damage to the left side of her brain caused by clogged blood vessels.
Physicians have administered medication to treat the symptoms and the princess' condition is being monitored closely.
The 84-year-old princess has been diagnosed with cancer after she was admitted to Siriraj Hospital on June 15 after she developed problems within her abdomen. She has since received medical treatment which has helped to stabilise the condition. (Bangkok Post)
Princess Galyani Vadhana is the eldest sister of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX).
Her royal patronage involved the traditional Thai arts, education, sports and social welfare, including the Cardiac Children's Foundation, the Princess Mother's Charity Fund, Autistic Foundation of Thailand and her own foundation for gifted young musicians.
She normally goes about her work quietly. While the Thai government and the press have been busy celebrating the King's 60th year on the Throne in 2006, and concentrating in his 80th birthday in December, the princes celebrated her 84th birthday last May without much celebration.
