Strong Typhoon Heading For Tokyo; Flights Canceled

Topics: TopTokyo, Japan (AHN) - A typhoon is heading for Japan's main island in the Pacific and is expected to reach there by Saturday night, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. It had strong winds of up to 90 miles per hour [144 kilometers per hour] on Friday.

Typhoon Faxai was last seen 187 miles (300 kilometers) south of Tokyo and moving northeast at 53 miles per hour [85 kilometers per hour].
The meteorological agency warned of heavy rains and possible landslides.
Flights were canceled between Tokyo and the Izu islands, while some ferry services the capital and Shizuoka Prefecture were also canceled.
The agency further also predicted as much as five inches [120 millimeters] of rain and winds up to 56 miles per hour [90 kilometers per hour] as Faxai passes the Kanto area.
Earlier this month, a typhoon hit eastern and northern Japan, leaving at least two people dead and injuring 82 others.
