Preciosa Dumlao - AHN News Writer Manila, Philippines (AHN) - At least five people were killed in the series of landslides caused by heavy rainfall on Saturday, in the province of Catanduanes, in the eastern Philippines, officials said on Sunday. Several province in Catanduanes experienced landslides, which blocked some roads in the area, Catanduanes Governor Joseph C. Cua said. According to the Philippine Weather Bureau on Sunday, heavy rainfall was caused by the Pacific Ocean's low pressure area, which was about 25 miles north of Catanduanes province. The Philippines is frequently hit by typhoons and tropical storms, which has caused landslides in some of the Philippine provinces. In the last week of September, a northern Philippine province was struck by heavy rain, which caused landslides and mudslides, and killed at least eight people when their houses were buried.
