November 4, 2007 7:38 a.m. EST Harriette Cecilio - AHN News Writer Lanham, MD (AHN) - Supermarket operator Safeway Inc. is recalling ground beef sold in stores in four eastern states for fear the products may be contaminated with E.coli. In a press statement, Safeway said the affected ground beef products were distributed by Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. and sold in its stores in Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia. The Safeway recall includes the products listed below: - 80% Lean Ground Beef 20% Fat - 80% Lean Ground Beef 20% Fat Extreme Value Pack - 80% Lean Ground Beef Market 20% Fat - 80% Lean Ground Beef Market 20% Fat Extreme Value Pack - 80% Lean Ground Beef Steakhouse Patties No More Than 20% Fat - 80% Lean Ground Beef Steakhouse Patties No More Than 20% Fat Seasoned - 90% Lean Ground Beef 10% Fat - 90% Lean Ground Beef Not More Than 10% Fat Extreme Value Pack - 93% Lean Ground Beef 7% Fat - 93% Lean Ground Beef 7% Fat Extreme Value Pack - Lean Ground Beef for Chili 80% Lean Case Ready - Meat Loaf Beef/Veal/Pork Case Ready - 85% Lean Ground Beef Patties 15% Fat - 96% Extra Lean Ground Beef Not More Than 4% Fat Case Ready The recalled products are packaged on black Styrofoam trays and with sell-by dates of Oct. 10, 2007 through Nov. 2, 2007. Symptoms of E.coli poisoning may include stomach cramps that lead to loose bowel movement tainted with traces of blood and can lead to more serious complications like renal failure. "While the affected Cargill products are no longer in stores, we ask customers to discard these products or return them to their local store for a full refund," Safeway said.
