November 7, 2007 5:57 a.m. EST Siddique Islam - AHN South Asia Correspondent Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - Air Slovakia, a Slovakian airline, on Tuesday announced its new schedule of flights from the Bangladesh capital, Dhaka to London via Bratislava from December 6, 2007. The move is said to have made waves n the local flight economy due to the air carriers promise do a competitive ticket tariff. "At first we will operate a single flight weekly and if we get good response we will increase the number of flights," said GP Singh, Manager of Operation (Bangladesh and India) of the airline during a press conference. Starting operations in 1993, Air Slovakia, which has a fleet comprising nine Airbus and Boeing aircraft, now flies to a good number of destinations covering many parts of Europe, Middle East and India. Air Slovakia has flight operations in 35 destinations across the world, mostly in Europe, according to Sidhu. The airline has decided to launch operations in Bangladesh as it is eyeing a good number of passengers including the Bangladeshi expatriates living in East London. This is the first-ever airline of Eastern Europe and the second one of Europe after British Airways to operate from Bangladesh. "We cannot pledge to offer a low-cost travel as the fuel price in international market has increased significantly," Vladimir Zaborasky, the airline's Operation Director, said, explaining the cost of flying. "Now we have to spend around 42 percent of the ticket price for fuel that has contributed to increased ticket price."
