Windsor Genova - AHN News Writer Tokyo, Japan (AHN) - Japanese memory chip maker Elpida Memory Inc. will start mass producing 65-nanometer dynamic random access memory (DRAM) chips by March next year. Japan Today said the firm announced on Wednesday that it will produce each month 30,000 to 40,000 units of the DRAM in 11.8-inch (300-millimeter) silicon wafers at its plant in Hiroshima Prefecture in western Japan. The 65-nanometer DRAM chip will increase production of the memory used in computers by 30 percent because more chips can fit in a wafer. The process of making the 65-nanometer DRAM is also 20 percent cheaper than making a 70-nanometer DRAM chip, so Elpida can cut its production cost and offer a lower price for the product.
