Julie Farby - AHN News Writer Broward County, FL (AHN)-Residents in Broward County, Florida have given new meaning to the phrase, "Internet era," unveiling a new service this month that allows its citizens to file for divorce through an online application process. Based on programs first initiated in Palm Beach County and other locations, the new, online divorce program enables residents to quickly and conveniently file divorce claims, small claims lawsuits, and eviction claims without ever leaving the house. Kris Mazzeo, director of the family division of Broward County Clerk of Courts, says the online service was designed to be another option for people who can't afford, or do not want to the spend the money, to retain an attorney for their legal needs. "It kind of guides you through, it asks questions. Once it knows your name, it will put it in every space it should go," she explained, adding that the convenience of an online application cuts overhead costs and saves residents and workers from the traditional hassles of filing a divorce claim. "People come downtown and it's expensive to park. If we can keep them from making extra trips to the courthouse, it would be great for them," she said.
