November 20, 2007 8:45 a.m. EST Rochelle Montano - AHN News Writer Sydney, Australia (AHN) - Two security guards hijacked a plane in Papua New Guinea and took off with the estimated $2 million that was on the plane. Reports said the chartered plane was carrying the money to a bank in Papua's western province, when the two guards decided to hijack it. Police said the two security guards pointed their guns at the two Australian pilots and forced the plane to land at a World War II-era airstrip near Port Moresby. The pilots managed to send a distress signal and directed the staff at Port Moresby's Jackson airport. Responding police found the two pilots covered in mud and handcuffed to a tree. While the two security guards, together with three other accomplices waiting at the airstrip, tried to evade the police and ran off with the money. However, the police caught up with them ensuing in a gun fight killing one of the guards and the captured of two others. The police recovered the money and is now hunting for the escaped bandits.
