Beijing, China (AHN) - China-developed technology that allows home electronic appliances to interoperate and be controlled through one device has become the first international standard for the interconnection of digital products.

Chinatechnews.com reported on Thursday that the International Organization for Standardization and the International Electrotechnical Commission have voted to approve the Intelligent Grouping and Resource Sharing (IGRS) standard as an international model for global 3C (Computers/Communications/Consumer products) coordination field.

Sun Yuning, IGRS work team leader, said the Chinese 3C interoperability standard will undergo a series of formalities before it is officially published as an international standard.

According to Crienglish.com, the IGRS standard was established in July 2003 by the biggest computer and CE companies in China, namely Lenovo, TCL, Konka, Hisense and Great Wall. It is an embedded software that prompts digital devices to identify each other's presence and detect which resources they can share.

When the devices are networked, an IGRS-capable PC can share its media contents, such as videos, to a digital media player, such as TV. AN IGRS-capable mobile phone can also access phone books stored in PCs.

The Chinese government formally adopted the IGRS standard for China in 2005. Local firms from different industries have formed an association and used the IGRS standard for embedded chips in TVs and PCs.
