Saginaw, MI (AHN) - The Environmental Protection Agency said the Siginaw River contains dioxin levels 20 times higher than ever detected. Dow Chemical said it will remove the toxic discovery nearby its Midland, Mich. facility.
Government and private cleanup workers at the Saginaw and Tittabawassee rivers, detected 1.6 million parts per trillion of Dioxin. Michigan requires sites with more than 1,000 parts per trillion be cleaned up.
Dow, which for decades produced the deadly chemical at its Midland location, has spent the past several months cleaning three Dioxin sites on the Tittabawasee River, according to the Associated Press.
