November 28, 2007 9:52 a.m. EST Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor Reston, VA (AHN) - Online shoppers were out in record numbers earlier this week, with Internet retailers registering $733 million in sales on 'Cyber Monday.' Online sales jumped 21 percent compared with 2006, according to Internet measurement firm comScore. Cyber Monday, the online version of 'Black Friday' for brick-and-mortar retailers brought out nearly half of all Internet users. According to comScore, the majority of people shopped online from work. Online shoppers spent on average 12 percent less than in 2006. Possibly effecting the amount is a fragile economy, marked by credit and housing uncertainty. The Wall Street Journal reported new online shoppers also tend to spend less than more experienced Internet buyers. Amazon.com, Wal-Mart and Target were the top three sites for Internet shoppers, comScore said. Yahoo, who was the sixth most popular location for online purchases, Monday suffered an outage effecting an unknown number of small retailers.
