November 29, 2007 12:38 p.m. EST Einnor Mendoza - AHN News Writer Algiers, Algeria (AHN) - A total of 10 Algerians died after heavy rains and floods ravaged parts of Algeria, officials said. The latest fatalities were three women in El-Hamri town near the northern coastal Oran city. The women were trapped inside a house that was destroyed by the calamities. Also killed was an eight-year old child who died in a hospital after he was rescued from a fallen wall in Algiers, reported MSNBC. Authorities said 29 houses and walls have been destroyed. Mudslides have also occurred, amid storms that may yet hit Algeria in the two coming days. Tuesday, www.ech-chorouk.com reported a coasts guard captain had gone missing amid the rains and floods particularly in Boumerdes Province, some 31 miles (50 kms) east of the Algiers capital. In 2001, around 340 died in after floods hit Algeria. Most those who died lived in Algiers.
