Jay-Z Becomes Better Boyfriend After Dad's Death

New York, NY (CNS) - Hip-hop mogul Jay-Z says his father's death is the reason why he is a better boyfriend.

It is reported that Shawn Corey Carter's (his real name) father's death in 2003 has helped him open up emotionally and taught him the importance of dealing with emotional issues.

"When I was young, the person I looked up to was my father, and once I experienced that hurt, the separation from the guy you thought was Superman, you never want to feel that hurt again. I'm sure she thinks I'm closed off. I'm working on it. Just trying to deal with emotional issues, taking them on proactively. Before, I wouldn't even address it," the 37-year-old rapper says.

Jay-Z is currently dating R&B artist Beyonce Knowles. Their relationship went public after his 2002's single '03 Bonnie and Clyde where they collaborated. They were listed as a Power Couple on Time Magazine's 2006 100 Most Influencial People.
