Toronto, Canada (AHN) - Chris Simon's latest infraction during a hockey game could be extremely costly as the New York Islanders forward met with NHL officials on Tuesday to talk about his getting tossed from a recent game due to unsportsmanlike behavior.

In Saturday's game between the Islanders and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Simon pulled out one of his opponent player's legs, sending the player to the ground, and he stomped on the man's leg with his own skate.

Simon was given a match penalty because of the incident and he was tossed from the game which ended with Pittsburgh winning 3-2.

While the NHL is currently reviewing what kind of punishment it will hand out to Simon, the Islanders already have taken action.

The team placed the forward on paid leave with the hopes Simon's being away from the hockey rink will be good for him.

This incident is not the first one for Simon in which he has practiced questionable behavior. The forward has been suspended by the NHL six times in the past.

His most egregious offense came in March of 2007 when the league suspended him for 25 games because of a two-handed stick attack on the New York Rangers' Ryan Hollweg.

That suspension carried over to this year and it caused Simon to miss the opening five games of the year.

All of the rest of the suspensions Simon has received in the past were shorter ones, three days or under, but nearly all of them were for aggressive play that the NHL thought was too excessive.
