January 7, 2008 5:32 a.m. EST Nilanjana Bhowmick - AHN News Writer Keene, NH (AHN) - Presidential candidate John Edwards has called Senator Hilary Clinton's campaign one without a conscience. He was reacting to a statement from the Clinton camp that had alleged that Edwards was pulling out stories from news papers to further his cause. The statement released by Jay Carson, Clinton's spokesperson draws a comparison between Edwards and Clinton. It says, "the references in Senator Clinton's speeches are about people she has actually helped and changes she has actually made, not stories she's pulled from the newspaper and included in her stump, " reports The Caucus. Carson was referring to a meeting in Manchester on Sunday where the parents of Natalie Sarkisyan appeared besides Edwards as a show of support. Natalie, who was a leukemia patient had died after her insurance company refused her a liver transplant. Edwards, had used the incident to highlight his criticism of the health care system in the country with particular reference to insurance companies. Reacting to the criticism this appearance garnered from the Clinton camp, Edwards said at a news conference that the Sarkisyans believed that he would be the kind of President who would fight for their daughter. CBS News quotes Edwards as saying, "The idea that somehow everything is about them [the Clinton camp], I mean it's an indication that they have no conscience about whats at stake here." Sunday's meeting was also attended by James Lowe who could not afford a cleft palate surgery that would have allowed him to speak and Sandy Lakey, the mother of a young girl who was disemboweled by a faulty pool drain. Edwards had represented her ten years ago in a $25 million law suit. Edwards said, "They didn't come here by accident. They believe they have a responsibility to their families and their children to create a better America, and to make sure what happened in the Sarkisyan family's case never happens to any other family. I am proud of it. Everybody should be proud of it," reports CBS News. The war of words between Clinton and Edwards has escalated over the last few weeks.
