Kris Alingod - AHN News Writer San Francisco, CA (AHN) -- San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom began his second term on Tuesday after a oath-taking ceremony and speech that touted the city's leadership "On the most important issues of the day," and proposed several goals to meet increasing health and security problems. Newsom was sworn in by his father, retired state appellate Justice William Newsom, in a low-key event in City Hall attended by his fiance, actress Jennifer Siebel, and federal, state and local officials. "I cherish this opportunity to lead," Newsom said, "and I will work with all of you to make every single one of these most precious days count." The 40-year-old mayor said he would add 250 officers to the police force to curb rising crime rates, and insure 40,000 more residents despite a court setback to his universal health care plan. Newsom also pledged to make San Francisco free of carbon emissions by 2020.
