Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Melrose Place alumna Courtney Thorne-Smith has given birth to a baby boy named Jacob "Jake" Emerson Fishman today, OK! magazine reports exclusively.

The 6 lb. 13 oz. tot is the 40-year-old actress and her San Monica media owner husband Roger Fishman's first child. Thorne-Smith insisted to give birth the natural way in spite of the fact that Jake is nearly two weeks past his original due date.

The couple had said they did not the baby's gender beforehand.

"They were surprised and, of course, delighted when Jake arrived," a source says. "She had selected the name Maya in the event she was greeted by a girl instead of a boy. Courtney's son's middle name Emerson is also her father's name."

The new mom is also reportedly breastfeeding her son. Both mother and son are healthy and doing well.

"She is happily breastfeeding at the moment and bounced back so fast from her delivery ordeal that she has been given the "all clear" to leave the hospital tonight is she wants.

The actress was famous for playing the role of Alison Parker in Melrose Place and Georgia Thomas in Ally McBeal. She is currently playing Jim's wife, Cheryl, in ABC's According To Jim.
