Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Jessica Alba is rooting for her Latina roots. The pregnant brown-skinned actress claims she's proud of her Mexican blood and wants her baby to have her color.

"I always took pride in being Latina," the 26-year-old tells Latina magazine in its March issue. "I'm excited for my baby to be brown. I just have to believe the dark gene is going to survive. Cash and I are like, please."

Alba, who had been quoted to say that she never felt connected or attached to any race specifically, insists that she never abandoned her Mexican roots. "I never said that. Cut loose from what? Why would I want to cut loose from the only family I know?

"I always took pride in being Latina, it's something I always embraced. But when I got shunned, it made me feel really bad, like maybe I'm not."

Alba's father is Mexican-American, though her parents were both born in California. She had said in her past interviews that her grandparents didn't speak Spanish at home as they fear their children would feel different from the others, hence, the actress doesn't speak the language.

But Alba says her Latina looks are now the "It" thing. She takes pride in her features and finds it funny all women wants to look like them now.

"I like that I look different; I like having flavor. I think it's funny that women get their lips injected, butt implants - everone wants to look like us now."
