Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Nicole Kidman has been tapped to play a CIA agent. The multiple award-winning actress is "perfect" for the role of exposed CIA agent Valeria Plame in a biopic about her life.

"She's perfect if you've ever met Valerie," Director Doug Liman tells MTV. The 'Bourne Identity' director says of Kidman on taking the lead role. He also reveals that the actress was his choice to play Angelina Jolie's role in 'Mr. & Mrs. Smith' but was unable to do so and that had him pinning for the actress for this role.

"Nicole was supposed to play Jane Smith in Mr. & Mrs. Smith. We owe a movie together."

"That's an unrequited thing between me and an actor where I fell in love with them for a role and never get to consummate it."

Plame's biopic tells her story when her 20 years of secret CIA employment was exposed by Robert Novak, a political journalist in 2003, This is apparently after White House officials sought vengeance for the article written by her husband, former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson.

The uncovering of her identity led to a CIA grand jury investigation and criminal trial of Lewis Libby, the former vice president chief of staff.
