February 18, 2008 6:01 a.m. EST Preciosa Dumlao - AHN News Writer Georgetown, Guyana (AHN) - Authorities said 12 people, including three police officers and nine civilians, were killed when an unidentified men attacked a police station in southwestern Guyana's gold mine town Sunday, the second massacre in less than a month. Early reports show that at least six gunmen arrived at the town on board a high-speed boat through the Essequibo River and shot at the Bartica police station near the riverbank. Regional chairman Hilbert Knights said those injured were taken to the Bartica hospital, some 80 miles southwest of Georgetown, the capital of Guyana for treatment. Divisional Police Commander Gavin Primo said the gunmen were dressed in military suits. Guyana troopers and police were deployed to hunt the unidentified gunmen.
