Strong 6.8 Earthquake Strikes South Sandwich Islands

Hong Kong (AHN) - Hong Kong Observatory released a bulletin Sunday reporting a quake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale struck the South Sandwich Islands in the south Atlantic ocean.

The report said that the quake's epicenter was about 1,841 miles east southeast of Rio Gallegos, Argentina. The quake struck at 57.1 degrees south latitude and 23.6 degrees west longitude at 12:17 a.m. local time.

There were no reports of death, damage or casualties.
