February 24, 2008 10:17 a.m. EST D.C. Morales - AHN News Writer Manila, Philippines (AHN)-The number of Internet users in the Philippines is expected to reach 24 million this year. That is up from 14 million in 2006, a study released by market research firm AC-Nielsen revealed. The significant growth, over 10 million users from year-ago levels, is attributed to the large number of Internet cafes in the country and the accessibility to low-cost computers. According to Tarun Sawney, Business Software Alliance director for Asia, the availability of affordable computers should result in increasing Internet users by 50 percent in the Philippines every two years.
