March 4, 2008 7:09 p.m. EST Alixandra Hallen - AHN Contributor St. Paul, MN (AHN)- Al Franken's campaign announced an endorsement today from the Minnesota State Council of Machinists. The Minnesota State Council is part of the larger group, the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers with approximately 5,100 members statewide. "The Machinists believe Al is by far the best candidate to protect Minnesota's working families," Minnesota State Counsel President Lisa Stager said. "Al will carry our voice to Washington and not only vote for the Employee Free Choice Act he will proudly co-sponsor it. He is a 'fair trader,' and will insist that trade agreements include enforceable labor, safety, and environmental standards. We will stand by him in this campaign and work in the 'fighting machinist way' to defeat Norm Coleman." Franken continues to ride a wave of union endorsements, and expressed his gratitude at being honored by this endorsement. "I'm honored to receive this endorsement, and honored to join with the Machinists to fight for the right of workers to organize here in Minnesota and across the country," Franken said. "Unions were invaluable in building our middle class, and with middle-class economic security at greater and greater risk, it's important that we work together to stand up for working families."
