March 6, 2008 6:33 a.m. EST Florida Padilla - AHN Washington, D.C. (AHN) - President Bush urged the use of electric cars Wednesday to decrease use of oil, which would consequently lead to a decrease in demand of oil. The President reiterated in his speech at the Washington International Renewable Energy Conference, that it is high time for U.S. "to get off oil" to reduce dependence on foreign oil producers for its oil consumption. The President made the appeal amid the continuing increase of prices of petroleum products in the global market as a result of increase in demand for oil. He said such increase continues to hurt the U.S. ailing economy. In his trip to Middle East in January, the President called on to the members of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to increase in production of oil products to ease the non-stop rising prices of petroleum products. He made the same appeal shortly after his meeting with Jordan's King Abdullay II at the Oval Office on Tuesday. President Bush said, OPEC members must consider the consequences of high prices of oil. His appeal has landed on deaf ears, however, since the OPEC members already dismissed any call to increase oil production, noting "there is a lot of supply in the global market".
