Yangon, Myanmar (AHN) - The United Nations special envoy Ibrahim Gambari met with Myanmar's pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi and opposition party members on Saturday.

Suu Kyi has been under house arrest and he was detained without a trial for 12 of the past 18 years.

According to the reports, Suu Kyi was found leaving in an official convoy for the state guest house where he was scheduled to meet the envoy.

The Nobel Prize winner, Suu Kyi was to meet with the Gambari at 4:15 p.m. (0945 GMT), after he finishes meeting with the top leaders of her National League for Democracy (NLD) political party.

During the one-hour talks with the top executives, the leaders have reportedly expressed a desire to step up the pace of dialogue with the junta and wanted the political prisoners released, according to the Associated Press.

The United Nations would want the work along the similar agenda with the junta, but the ruling bloc has shown no desire to accept the conditions set forth by the NLD leaders.

Gambari has met with Suu Kyi in the past and tried to mediate talks with the military regimen following the crackdown ordered on anti-government demonstrations, which were led by the country's revered Buddhist monks, in September.

According to the U.N., at least 31 people were killed during the attack on the protestors.
