Miami, FL (AHN) - Miami All-Star guard, Dwyane Wade, started therapy with shockwave treatment for his injured left knee on Tuesday.

Wade underwent the 20-minute treatment which employs an OssaTron procedure a day after the Heat announced that the 2006 NBA Finals MVP would sit out the remainder of the season to rehabilitate the repaired joint which has bothered him for a while.

The OssaTron machine provides patients with a high-powered form of shockwave therapy and is used as an alternative for patients with injuries such as plantar fasciitis and tennis elbow.

Several athletes who have undergone OssaTron treatments include Heat players Alonzo Mourning and Chris Quinn.

Wade finished the 2008 season averaging 24.5 points, currently fifth-best in the league.
