New York, NY (CNS) - Rapper Remy Ma's alleged shooting victim has dropped her $80 Million civil lawsuit against the rapper to await the outcome of the star's criminal trial.
The Grammy nominated rapper, whose real name is Remy Smith, is accused of shooting the woman in the abdomen last July after leaving a bar in Greenwich Village in Manhattan. Remy, 26, claimed the acquaintance, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, stole $2,000 from her purse.
Barnes-Joseph filed the suit in December of 2007 claiming that Remy Ma "willfully, wantonly and maliciously" fired a gun at her. The suit also named Universal Music Group and Sure Shot Recordings as co-defendants, stating that the record companies encouraged the star's violent behavior to help promote her image.
Barnes-Joseph has said that she may re-file the civil suit once the criminal trial comes to a close.
Remy Ma was charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted murder, but pled not guilty to the charges. The rapper faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted of the charges.
