Dutchtown, MO (AHN) - Weary residents in the Midwest continue to evacuate their houses because of floodwaters from more rain and snowstorms are causing rivers to flood residential areas. The severe weather has caused cancellation of regular local and international flights as well as many Good Friday religious services.

In St. Louis, the Meramec River's $49 million-levee was not able to prevent the water surge and water lapped onto Interstate 44, as well as into houses and business establishments. Church officials in Wisconsin were forced to cancel services remembering Good Friday to prevent probable accidents and difficulties for churchgoers. Residents used their time to salvage furniture and combat flooding in their homes.

Some flights were cancelled and more were delayed at busy O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, while Michigan's Detroit Metropolitan Airport was forced to cancel flights because of high snow levels.

While river and flooding levels have receded since Friday, forecasts continue to warn residents that flooding may continue because of melting snow packs and rainfall from across the Midwest and the northeast.
