Swift Current, Saskatchewan (AHN)- A mother, whose 14-year-old daughter ran away with an "Internet boyfriend," has warned parents to carefully watch what their kids are doing online.
The mother, whose name was withheld together with her daughter, told local radio station CJME that she had cautioned her daughter on chatting with people over the Internet and meeting them. She urged parents to be strict about allowing their children to go online, looking for new friends on the chat.
The young teenage girl was using her sister's computer. Both her parents and sister tried to lock the computer down by password-protecting it but to no avail.
The mother said her daughter climbed out her bedroom window early Tuesday morning and left a note saying she is running away with her Internet boyfriend.
The young teen made her way out of her rural home, where she was picked up by an older man in a taxi. Police identified the man as Daniel George Nickolson, 41, of Windsor, Ontario.
Police later picked up the two at a Winnipeg bus station. Nickolson was charged with abducting a minor.
