London, England (AHN)-Based on a study by Christian Research, mosque-going Muslims in England and Wales would reach 683,000 by 2020, outnumbering Catholic churchgoers who would number 679,000 by that time.

It also cites that over the same period the number of Muslims at mosques will overtake Church of England members at Sunday services. Thus, it warns that if the decline among churchgoers will not be arrested, there will be more active Muslims than Christians or Catholics in Britain by the middle of the century.

Christian Research's Religious Trends will be released amid increasing tension over the place of Muslims in British society. Recently, Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, came under attack when he said that the introduction of some aspects of Sharia into British society was "unavoidable".

Moreover, the Bishop of Rochester, the Rt Rev Michael Nazir-Ali, received death threats for commentting that Islamic extremism was turning some communities into "no-go" areas "where adherence to this ideology has become a mark of acceptability".
