March 26, 2008 2:46 p.m. EST Tony Guadagnoli - AHN sports reporter Orlando, FL (AHN) - Officials at the University of Central Florida say an offseason workout Ereck Plancher participated in did not violate NCAA rules. UCF executive associate athletic director David Chambers said the workout Plancher went through took place in an appropriate time period, an eight-week window designated as student-athlete discretionary time. The redshirt freshman receiver died March 18, after voluntary strength and conditioning drills. His death came the day before spring practice was originally set to begin. Spring practice was postponed until Monday. An autopsy proved inconclusive. The Orange County Medical Examiner's office has said more testing will be needed. Funeral services for Plancher are scheduled Saturday in Naples, Fla.
