Brussels, Belgium (AHN) - An official from Georgia warned NATO members on Wednesday that tension may spark in the Black sea region should they give in to Russian pressure to disapprove the bid for membership of Georgia and Ukraine.

Georgia's Foreign minister David Bakradze said that failure to grant his country's request would send a wrong signal to Moscow and they would in turn continue to support the breakaway regions in Georgia.

"No' in Bucharest will be very clearly seen by some people in Moscow as their success, and it will be clearly seen in Moscow that they have indirect veto right on NATO decisions," Bakradze told reporters, according to the Associated Press.

Moscow has been vocal about their opposition to Georgia and Ukraine's move to ask the NATO summit of a "membership action plan", which would lead to a membership.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has even threatened to use nuclear weapons against Georgia if it pushes through with its membership plans.

Meanwhile members of NATO have remained divided on the issue. U.S., Canada and members from Eastern Europe have declared their statement of support to the two countries. But members from western Europe, led by Germany have expressed their opposition on the request, saying it would not do any good to the efforts to improve ties with Russia.
