March 27, 2008 11:19 a.m. EST Vittorio Hernandez - AHN News Writer Toronto, Canada (AHN) - An outspoken Toronto councilor was arrested over charges of assault and issuing a death threat. The city's police arrested Rob Ford, 38, over an apparent domestic spat with wife Renata. Canadian police procedures withhold the name of the complainant, but sources of Toronto's top newspapers named Ford's wife as the complainant. Ford was arrested but was released after two hours. He promised to appear for the court hearing slated on April 28. Ford also said despite his arrest, he will be back Thursday on his job at city hall. Ford's lawyer, Dennis Morris, said the charges against the council were not true and Ford would fight them. Despite the court case, Morris said Ford will continue being a councilor since his case does not have anything to do with his job. Morris said Ford, upon his release from police custody, was granted custodian of his two children. "That's very important, reading between the lines, because if a person is allegedly violent or threatening, usually Children's Aid and the police wouldn't want a person near the children without court order," Morris told Globe and Mail.
