Washington, D.C. (AHN) - White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said on Friday that an aide to the President has resigned after admitting to misusing funds from the U.S.Agency for International Development (USAID), according to the Associated Press.

Felipe Eduardo Sixto, a special assistant to President George Bush for intergovernmental affairs, admitted on March 20 that he "had a conflict of interest" about how grant money should be used while he was employed at the Center for a Free Cuba before his White House appointment last year.

Stanzel added that the non-profit group is planning to bring Sixto to court. Frank Calzon, executive director of the the Center for a Free Cuba, said in an interview with Talking Points Memo that they immediately informed USAID upon finding out about the allegations weeks ago.

"We're anxious to cooperate in any way shape or form to get to the very bottom of it. We expect that all funds in question will be returned to the American taxpayer," he said.

Sixto was promoted early this month after serving as an associate director in the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs at the White House.
