March 31, 2008 7:59 a.m. EST Isabelle Duerme - AHN News Writer San Francisco, CA (AHN) - Hoping to attract more female viewers, Internet company Yahoo launched Monday a new website focusing on women-related subjects, such as fashion, relationships, parenting, and entertainment. The website, called "Shine", is aimed at women between 25 and 54 years old, and will feature information from women's magazines and bloggers. Women see Yahoo as a reference source, according to Yahoo Insider. Yahoo was also the most visited Web site for those seeking information on lifestyle subjects, said Amy Iorio, Lifestyles general manager for Yahoo. "This is really a key audience for Yahoo," Iorio told CNet. "We've been calling them 'chief household officers' internally." Shine will provide its viewers with information from sources such as Glamour, Epicurious.com, Style.com, InStyle, Cosmopolitan, Harper's Bazaar, Women's Health, and Good Housekeeping. The contents will be monitored by editor in Chief Brandon Holley, formerly from Jane magazine, and Elle Girl. "Shine is going to be a magnet for women looking to come to one place to get the best information built for women," said Brandon. Shine's success will be further boosted by the large number of traffic on women-related websites. According to the Los Angeles Times, sites catering to women's concerns received about 74 million visitors last February - an increase of 43 percent compared to the same month of last year. Lorio explained that their edge stems from the vast range of user-related information it has gathered, especially from the demographic targeted by Shine. "We know what they are looking for and what they click on," she said. Shine will also allow its visitors to write blog entries on several subjects, with the editors posting the best ones on the home page, http://shine.yahoo.com.
