Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Mariah Carey has beaten Elvis Presley for the most U.S. No. 1 singles of all time.

With her 18th chart-topper "Touch My Body," the 38-year-old singer is now second only to the Beatles, who has 20 No. 1 singles.

Carey says of her success, "I really can never put myself in the category of people who have not only revolutionized music but also changed the world. That's a completely different era and time... I'm just feeling really happy and grateful."

She adds, "For me, in my mind the accomplishment is just that much sweeter. In terms of my ethnicity, always feeling like an outsider, always feeling different... for me it's about saying, 'Thank you Lord, for giving me the faith to believe in myself when other people had written me off.'"

"Touch My Body" is Carey's first single off her "E=MC2" album due on April 16.

It's not only Carey who has defeated the King of Rock 'n Roll's chart records. Madonna has also surpassed Presley this week for the most top 40 hits with her "4 Minutes" making it her 37th.
