Carson, CA (AHN) - Los Angeles Galaxy's David Beckham scored his first goal in a Major League Soccer game while giving an assist to Landon Donovan to lift the Los Angeles Galaxy over expansion team San Jose Earthquakes with a 2-0 win for their home opener on Thursday night.
Beckham, who scored his season's first goal, took a perfect pass from Donovan, the team's biggest star before Beckham arrived, at the top of the box on his left in the ninth minute, then unleashed the ball from 18 yards on the right side and through the back of the net with 8:16 in the game.
Beckham then fed Donovan at the same spot where he made the goal late in the first hand, with Donovan successfully connecting into an empty net after goalkeeper Joe Cannon charged forward. The Galaxy's second goal came in the 37th minute.
San Jose tried to get back in the game in the third minute with a goal but it was called for offsides.
Los Angeles goalkeeper Steve Cronin recorded his first career shutout preventing every attempt that the Earthquakes made.
