San Diego, CA (AHN) - Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has said he would veto any initiative that would ban same-sex marriages.

Schwarzenegger said on Friday, at the annual convention of the Log Cabin Republicans, that bills considering same sex marriages to be banned will be vetoed by him, and that it is up to the people to vote what the state's stand will be on gay marriages. The people in the convention cheered for him, and have said in reports and interviews that they are excited about the governor's possible support for them.

Schwarzenegger's stand on gay marriages have been mixed throughout his term. He has signed more than five bills against discrimination and for pursuing more rights and benefits for homosexual couples, but vetoed bills that would allow same sex marriages to be recognized by the law. According to him, the decision should be talked about by the people and the court, and not be discussed and decided on by legislators.

The governor's response is in time for two separate groups' proposals of amending the state's standing rule, but is also being looked into and considered in 26 other states.
