Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Samuel L. Jackson's "surprise" cameo in the movie "Iron Man" has been surprisingly cut out.

According to reports, the "Snakes On A Plane" actor replaced Bruce Willis last summer as the role of Nick Fury, an elite super spy in the Marvel Comics universe. His character was allegedly supposed to appear in the new comic-based film starring Robert Downey Jr.

However, his character failed to appear in the early screenings of the film.

In an interview last year, the actor, 59, insisted he was not in the film but he was looking forward to being called.

He said, "Everybody keeps saying, 'Aren't you in Iron Man?' and I keep going, 'Look, the guy in the comic looks just like me and if they do cast it and they don't cast me, there's gonna be some problems,' so I'm looking forward to that."

Terrence Howard and Gwyneth Paltrow join Downey in "Iron Man." It is expected to hit theaters May 8.
