Vancouver, British Columbia (AHN) - The fugitive father wanted in the killing of his three children has been caught with the help of a Merritt hunter.

Allan Dwayne Schoenborn, 40, was arrested Wednesday morning outside Merritt, a ranching community about 270 kilometers northeast of Vancouver, according to The Globe and Mail.

Merritt tracker and hunter Kim Robinson was credited with finding Schoenborn, who had managed to evade authorities for 10 days.

Robinson, who claims to know every cave, nook and cranny in the area, said the Royal Canadian Mounted Police earlier turned down his offer to help track the fugitive.

Disappointed but confident that his 30 years of hunting and trapping experinece would be of good use, Robinson set out on Schoenborn's trail with a pack of bloodhounds.

He found Schoenborn barely two days into the hunt.

Police have been looking for Schoenborn since the bodies of his three children were found in their home on April 6. The RCMP said he is the prime suspect in the slaying of Kaitlynne, 10, Max, 8, and Cordon, 5.

According to reports, Schoenborn was arrested at his children's school a few days before the killings and charged with uttering threats, and two times the week prior.

Police have declined to release further details about the case.

"At this time we're confirming that Mr. Schoenborn is in custody and he is alive," Const. Tracy Dunsmore of Merritt RCMP told CBCNEWS.ca.
