April 21, 2008 3:35 p.m. EST Siddique Islam - AHN South Asia Correspondent Kathmandu, Nepal (AHN) - At least 137 more Tibetan refugees were arrested in Nepal on Monday while protesting outside of the United Nations headquarters in Kathmandu, police said. The protesters called on the world body to investigate China's recent crackdown in the Himalayan region. Police detained 101 Tibetan men and 36 women from around at the main U.N. building in Kathmandu`s neighboring Lalitpur district on Monday afternoon, the Kyodo News, a Japanese news agency, reported. On Friday, at least 100 Tibetan refugees were arrested while protesting outside of the Chinese embassy in the capital, Kathmandu. The authorities concerned said the protests could harm the country's relations with China. Tibetan refugees suspended their demonstrations on April 3 to assist Nepal to peacefully hold a constituent assembly election April 10, but they resumed the demonstrations on Wednesday. The Tibetans have been staging demonstrations in Nepal's capital since March 10, 2008 to oppose the crackdown by Chinese military in Tibet.
