U.N. Warns Of Riot, Civil War Due To Food Shortage In Various Countries

Paris, France (AHN) - The United Nations Food Agency chief Jacques Diouf warned that civil war may erupt in some countries because of the global food shortages and soaring prices of fuel and other commodities.

According to Diouf, international leaders had failed to listen on his agency's warnings about the "predictable catastrophe" which all the countries are experiencing now.

He also added that government officials must take precautionary actions in order to educate their people about the current global problem on fuel, food shortages and the rising cost of basic commodities.

Diouf said he sees a potential danger of "civil war" for countries in sub-Saharan, African and also in Asia and Latin America.

He sites the government of Haiti as an example of civil war, demonstration and riots over the rising prices of rice and corn in the area.

Meanwhile, U.N. also warns Russian of a possible civil war over food where hundreds of motorists protested about the soaring prices of fuel and goods in the far east Russia.
