Burbank, CA (CNS) - Shia LaBeouf has been fined $500 over unlawful smoking charges.

The 'Transformers' actor paid the sum in exchange for having the misdemeanor charge against him dismissed by a court in California's Burbank Thursday.

The 21-year-old star - who was cited for unlawful smoking on February 18 - was not present at the hearing.

Last month, LaBeouf entered a not guilty plea over the charge after a judge issued a $1,000 warrant for his arrest when he failed to appear at a hearing. The warrant was later dismissed.

He was also arrested in November for reportedly refusing to leave a Chicago pharmacy.

All charges were later dropped, but LaBeouf admitted to being embarrassed by his behavior.

He said: "It was a mistake and I am completely embarrassed about it. There are lessons in life I need to learn, and I'm learning all of them in front of the public."

Next month, the actor can be seen starring in 'Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' alongside Harrison Ford, Cate Blanchett, John Hurt and Ray Winstone.
