Baghdad, Iraq (AHN) - The number of American troop casaulties in Iraq has reached a seven-month high of 47 in April. The number was reached after three U.S. soldiers died in separate incidents in the capital city.

All three deaths took place on Tuesday. The first soldier perished after his vehicle was hit by a roadside explosive. The second died from wounds he received when he was attacked. The third soldier was killed in a street bombing incident in Baghdad.

Since the Iraq war started in March 2003, no less than 4,059 American soldiers have waged their lives, AP said.

Maj. Gen. Kevin Bergner, in a talk with media in Baghdad, said, "We have said all along that this will be a tough fight and there will be periods where we see these extremists, these criminal groups and al-Qaida terrorists seek to reassert themselves."

"So, the sacrifice of our troopers, the sacrifice of Iraqi forces and Iraqi citizens reflects this challenge," the general added, quoted by the AP.
