May 2, 2008 12:14 a.m. EST Bill Lumpkin - AHN Editor Seville, Spain (AHN) -- John Daly shot a 3-over 75 in the Spanish Open on Thursday and finds himself 10 shots behind leader Martin Erlandsson after the opening round. Ranked 595th in the world, Daly is playing in Spain for the first time in 16 years. Daly hasn't finished in the top 10 in a tournament in the past three years and will need a strong round on Friday just to survive the cut. He started off slowly with a bogey on the opening hole par-3, then had a double-bogey on the following hole. He ended his day with three bogeys over three of the final six holes. Daly told the Associated Press, "I hit it good, but putted bad again. It's the same stuff again. I've had two years of this. I'm getting nothing out of it and it's frustrating." Meanwhile, Erlandsson shot a course-record 65. Spaniards Jordi Garcia and Ignacio Garrido were one shot back at 66 and England's Gary Clark was another shot back at 67. Defending champion Charl Schwartzel opened with a 74. There hasn't been a repeat champion at the Spanish Open in 55 years.
