Cecilia Arceo - AHN Bentonville, AR (AHN) - The world's biggest retailer, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. said Monday that it will provide 90-day prescriptions for $10 and 1,000 over-the-counter medications for $4 or less. The offer is the third phase of the store's $4 prescription program. Starting Monday, the store will start filling prescriptions up to 350 generic medications at $10 for a 90-day use. Because of the store's over-the-counter medication price rollbacks, one-third of its medicines cost $4 or lower. Several medications were added to its list of prescription for only $9 including alendronate, the generic name of Fosamax which is used for treating osteoporosis. "More and more people find health care, and particularly prescribed medicines, difficult to afford. This is one of the reasons we continually work to take our $4 Prescription Program to the next level," said Dr. John Agwunobi, Wal-Mart senior vice president and president, health and wellness, told CNN.
