May 5, 2008 9:51 p.m. EST Norman Vergara - AHN Sports Writer Gainesville, FL (AHN) - Georgetown forward Vernon Macklin has chosen Florida to be his next destination after spending his first two years with the Hoyas. The 6-foot-9 Macklin reportedly visited Gainesville on Friday, according to Jeff Goodman of Foxsports.com. His arrival in Florida will give coach Billy Donovan another athletic big man on the floor. Macklin spent the past season backing up star Roy Hibbert and made the decision despite the veteran's graduation this year. The arrival of Greg Monroe, touted as the top freshman in the nation, in the Hoyas' camp also seemed to have played into his decision to transfer. The forward posted 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game this past season as a sophomore. He scored 2.9 points and pulled down 1.5 rebounds a game as a freshman. Macklin will see action in the 2009-10 season after the mandatory sit-out of one season for transferees.
