May 6, 2008 2:20 a.m. EST Norman Vergara - AHN Sports Writer Knoxville, TN (AHN) - Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl announced over the weekend that sophomores Duke Crews and Ramar Smith have been cast off the team's roster for next season. The coach did not elaborate on the specifics of the dismissal, except to say that the school and the two athletes "would be better served to move on." He also said the decision was arrived at after a long observation of the players' past conducts. "They did a lot of positive things in two years, but we have very, very high expectations for student athletes on and off the court," Pearl told the Associated Press. Crews averaged 5.4 points and four rebounds an outing as a forward. He was suspended prior to the start of last season after reporting late several times. Crews was also found to be in possession of small amounts of prohibited drugs at the school apartment. The guard Smith posted 7.4 points and 3.2 assists while filling in as a starter for the Volunteers.
